Sam Hyde Harris sketches

Sam Hyde Harris ( 1889-1977) well listed artist. This is a group of framed sketches.

These are directly from his estate and stamped on the reverse.

Overall is 17 by 21 with the upper image measuring about

8 by 11 and the lower 6 by 12. The upper image is marked on the

left "Virginia City".

By the 1920s, Harris was travelling with Hanson Putthuff

to "pristine locations" in the West to paint. Harris was also showing and

selling his work in exhibitions in Southern California. Harris became popular

for his atmospheric compositions. Later as an art instructor, he developed

a whole school of "Harris Trees". These sketches show not only Northern

Nevada but include his brushy looking trees.

Nice images from a very popular artist.
